Sai

Back to Weapons

The Sai are metal trudgeons used in pairs or threes in Kobudo. They are usually recognized as a pair of metal batons with three prongs pointed in the same direction. The exception to this is the Manji Sai, which is shaped like the Buddhist Cross (Manji). The Sai were believed to be imported from China to Okinawa and the Chinese refers to them as “Te-Chek”. Similar variations of this weapon were found in India and Indonesia.
