| In 1999, soccer changed in Dunbar with Sterling Robinson hanging up his boots. Coming from a family of sports enthusiasts, this then nine-year-old chose Karate. His training began at The Arbutus Club where he continues to this day training at the Richmond Dojo in Seito Shito Ryu International Karate-do Kai. He trains under the tutelage of Sensei William & Alice Chung. Sterling enjoys entering several tournaments a year. He received his Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) awarded by the International Shihan Kai, consisting of the Japanese Executive Council, the American Shihan-kai, and the Canadian Shihan-kai in July 2007. Sterling says, "What I really like most about Karate is the individuality, fitness and the mental challenges with the ability to see ones accomplishments through hard work". Some of Sterling's accomplishments include: • 2003 Sato Cup -bronze medalist in Kumite • 2005 B.C. Spring Provincial Championships o Silver Medalist in Kata o Bronze Medalist in Kumite • 2005 Member of the Canadian Team in Osaka, Japan • 2007 Member of the Canadian Team in Lake Placid, NY o Bronze Medalist in 16-18 yrs Boys Black Belt Kata & Kumite |
