Mark Cheng

Mark has had a broad experience with training in Karate-do. For example;

Between 1980 - 1981 - Mark began training in Goju Ryu Karate with Sensei Toshiaki Nomada.

Then, between 1992 - 1994 he continued his training in Goju Ryu Karate with Sensei Nomada and Sensei Marshall Cheng.

In 1994, Mark began his training in Shito Ryu Karate (Itosu Kai then Seiko Kai) with Sensei Akira Sato.

Between 1995 - 2003, Mark was a valuable Asst. Instructor at the Richmond Shito-Ryu Dojo

In 1996, Mark earned his Shodan (1st Degree BlackBelt) in Suzuki-ha Shito Ryu Seiko Kai Karate from, Sensei Akira Sato.

In 2004, Mark continued his training in Shito Ryu Karate, but in the original style of Seito Shito Ryu and trained with Sensei William Chung.

In 2005, Mark earned his Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) from the International Shihan Kai, which consists of the Japanese Executive council, the American Shihan Kai, & the Canadian Shihan Kai in Osaka, Japan.

Here are some of Mark's recent tournament accomplishments:

• 2000 - Member of the British Columbia Provincial Team.

• 1999 - Wado Kai Canada National Championships.

              o Silver Medal: Kumite (65-70 kg Men's Black Belt Kumite)
              o Silver Medal: Kata (Men's Black Belt Kata)

• 1999 - Fall Provincial Karate Championships

              o Gold Medal: Kumite (65-70 kg Men's Black Belt Kumite)

• 2000 - Spring Provincial Karate Championships

              o Silver Medal: Kumite (65-70 kg Men's Black Belt Kumite)

• 2000 - NKA National Black Belt Championships

              o Gold Medal: Men's Team Kata (w/William Chung & Kenny Lim)
